Laurel Pegorsch
Masters of International Development Policy, Sanford School of Public Policy

​​Laurel Pegorsch is a 2nd year Masters of International Development Policy Fellow at Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy, focusing on environmental sustainability in supply chains and food systems in particular. She has been involved with DISI since 2016, first as a Project Innovator, then on the Executive Board as Director of Internal Development. She has enjoyed fostering collaboration within DISI teams and across Duke’s campus and diverse disciplines through DISI. Prior to DISI she worked in Madagascar, where she served for three years in the US Peace Corps, working closely with rural farmers and local cooperatives. She brings her passion for community-based non-profit work and expertise in project management and relationship building in development to DISI's leadership.

Joseph Andrews (Joey)

Joey Andrews is a 3rd year PhD student in Electrical and Computer Engineering here at Duke.  His research interests include nanoelectronics and printed electronics, with a primary interest in developing new nanomaterial electronic “inks”. Joey joined DISI for a chance to have a social impact on Durham and to facilitate connecting Duke students to their local community. Outside of the lab and DISI, Joey enjoys biking, reading, and spending time with his wife and giant dog.​

Jane Tandler

​Jane Tandler is a PhD candidate in the Neurobiology Department, where she works on developing new methods for delivering drugs to treat neurological and psychiatric disorders. Over the past ten years, she has worked with a variety of clinical populations and with many nonprofits, all of which has been immensely fulfilling. After getting involved with DISI as an ED of Marketing in Spring 2017, she was excited to take on her new role as an ED of Partner Outreach in Fall 2017. When not working, Jane enjoys teaching or practicing yoga, lounging in the sun, and hanging out with her hedgehog, Milou.​

Charlotte Moore
PhD in the Developmental Psychology, The Graduate School

Charlotte is a second year PhD student in the Developmental Psychology Program. Her research focuses on what factors impact infants' early world learning. She is interested in making sure that all children get access to the resources they need to succeed and grow. Charlotte joined DISI because she wants to have a positive impact on her community. In her free time, Charlotte knits socks and goes cycling.  ​​

Abby Snyder

Abby is working to develop automated fact-checking technology as Professor Bill Adair's Research Assistant working. Prior to attending Sanford, Abby was a 2011 Teach for America corps member in New Orleans, where she stayed working as both an administrator and teacher at a KIPP charter school for five years. After KIPP, she transitioned to politics, serving as Deputy Finance Director to Congressman Seth Moulton (MA 6). Abby is a policy generalist and is currently interested in social innovation and entrepreneurship. She is originally Massachusetts and graduated from Bowdoin College in 2011 with a major in Psychology.

Emilia Hull

​Emilia Hull Emilia Hull is a first-year dual degree candidate at Duke University, where she is pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Master of Environmental Management (MEM) focused on environmental business strategy. She received her B.A. in Biology from Dartmouth College in 2014, after which she worked for two years in Boston at a global medical and security evacuation and assistance company, gaining experience in sales, account management and product development. Emilia intends to pursue a career in environmental business strategy, focusing on product development and promoting circular economy and sustainable development strategies in the business community.

Elise Amez-Droz

Elise is a Master of Management Studies candidate at the Fuqua School of Business. In this rigorous ten-month program, she is developing her quantitative abilities as well as presentation and teamwork skills. She completed her Bachelor’s degree at the University of St. Gallen (HSG) in Switzerland, spending one term at the University of South Carolina-Columbia, and she wrote her thesis on the topic of circular economy and sustainable product design. She speaks four languages and has traveled to over 20 countries, and she spent several months in Asia doing poverty alleviation and education-related work.​

Adam Stanaland

Adam is a PhD student in psychology and public policy. After growing up in South Carolina, he attended Davidson College in North Carolina and received a degree in Psychology and Intercultural Communication Studies. Adam went on to work for the New York City Department of Education, where he did data-related policy and strategy work for the City's lowest-performing schools. Since his undergrad years, Adam has been heavily involved in community development and nonprofit management and is looking forward to training and working with the DISI Project Managers and their teams this semester.​

Steven Solomon

Steven is a Masters candidate in the department of Management studies at Fuqua Business School. Steven joined Duke in 2017 after graduating from Stanford University with a B.A in Human Biology and a Notation of Science Communication. While at Stanford, Steven was the Junior Class President, a Resident Assistant and a captain on the Varsity Track and Field team. Steven brings his passion for entrepreneurship, learning and success to the DISI program, and is currently serving on the board as Director of Operations.

Yilin Jiang
PhD in Economics, The Graduate School

​Yilin (pronounces as "yee-lin") Jiang is a PhD candidate in economics. She cares about how market structure affects competition and consumer welfare, and especially, how industrial organization economics could be applied to the healthcare market and improve the efficiency and equality of various healthcare systems. Yilin joined DISI as project manager in Spring 2017 and returns as the ED of Marketing & Student Outreach, where she would like to connect students with diverse backgrounds and connect them with the local non-profit community. She grew up in Shenzhen, China, and got her BSc in Economics and Finance from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. She loves theatre, museums, and dance.
